MEMORIAL OF SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL, PRIEST, SEPTEMBER 27, 2022

A reading of the holy Gospel according to Lk 9:51-56

When the days for Jesus to be taken up were fulfilled, he resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem, and he sent messengers ahead of him. On the way they entered a Samaritan village to prepare for his reception there, but they would not welcome him because the destination of his journey was Jerusalem. When the disciples James and John saw this they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?” Jesus turned and rebuked them, and they journeyed to another village.

REFLECTION

"He resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem."

Jesus fully understood what was ahead of Him as he journeyed to Jerusalem. The disciples did not grasp what was going to happen. And when they were not welcomed in a Samaritan village, the disciples were quick to pass judgment on them. But....he resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem

There was a course correction by Jesus --a glimmer of a different path. They walked on toward His suffering and cross. They followed Jesus.

God will make way to our destination. Trust and have confidence in Him. Follow Him with determination.

PONDER

When my plans do not work out, am I in synch with the Lord? Do I try to understand where I am, where I am going, what I am to do and why?

PRAY

Let my prayer come before you, Lord (Psalm88) and show me your way, your path. Fill me with a glimmer of hope and trust. Incline your ear to my call for help (Psalm 88).

God Bless You
