A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 11:25-27

At that time Jesus exclaimed: “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.”

REFLECTION: " you have revealed them to the childlike.'

What does it mean to be childlike in our faith? What does Jesus mean in today's gospel?

Having spent 2 weeks with my three year old grandaughter, I think I understand the childlike qualities Jesus talks about. In her innocence I saw a glimpse of heaven. I understood the joy that Our Father takes in His children.

Penelope took delight in simple things--redoing jigsaw puzzles over and over, letting her imagination thrive as she built lego houses. I saw how quickly she learned, how much she loved to play especially house with her toys.

But most of all she was the mealtime prayer guru. What simple joy in delivering the thank you for the food, for the people at the table, and then "inaudible words" that only God would know what she was saying.

That is the innocence of childhood. And that is what Jesus is calling us to be. And what is it that we seek?

Sheer joy in simple things, delight in the present, sincere trust and no worry, complete wonder of life with many ooh's and aah's as in picking beautiful wild flowers and an eagerness to please Our Father.

When we see dinner, thank Him for the food and not worry about all the work to clean up.

When there is chaos in the world, believe in God's mercy and His love for you. Rest completely in God with our future.

Trust that God will meet your daily needs.

When God loves us we need not worry. God is trustworthy!

God Bless You..
