WEDNESDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK OF EASTER APRIL 27, 2022

A reading of the holy Gospel according to Jn 3:16-21

God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God. And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.

REFLECTION

But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.

Cockroaches everywhere!!

I was new to Houston’s humidity and its many cockroaches. The home we bought was big and promising home for the pitter patter of little feet. To my surprise, when I turned on the kitchen lights, there were roaches all over: oh how they loved to come out in the dark, low profile while we slept. Immediately, Terminix helped take care of the problem along with good elbow grease to clean up after their mess.

When I imagine “man preferring darkness over light, because of their evil deeds“ I am reminded of my early years in Houston. Scared because these Houston roaches could fly and scared of the unhealthiness of their whereabouts. They brought no joy or peace to my life.

God has given us All— the sun, moon, stars, air, birds singing in the morning, and food. He is the light and loves us beyond what we could imagine. It was in the setting of evil, sin and darkness that He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus the Christ, to rescue us from the darkness of the world.

We are to follow His light and fear nothing other than our turning our backs to Him through betrayal and desire to be all for ourselves by ourselves. Yet in His immense love and mercy for us, He makes Himself present all the time. He waits to get us out of the filth of darkness and sin into a world filled by His love .

Would I prefer to live in a world of hate, anger, envy, pettiness, meanness, terrorized by the unknown creatures crawling about or would I choose to be with the Lord, His Holy Family- Our Mother Mary and St Joseph, the terror of demons, and our protector and guide for our family?

In our lives we need to know where we want to grow and be happy, where it’s safe, where we can see the beacon of light letting us know we are on the right path.

Choose now before it’s too late. Pray for our loved ones still lost in their world of darkness. Pray for those who don’t yet know there is a light. “Illumine our eyes that we may discern your glory in the many works of your hand.” (Psalm Prayer)

God bless you
