A reading of the holy Gospel according to Mk 8:22-26

When Jesus and his disciples arrived at Bethsaida, people brought to him a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him. He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. Putting spittle on his eyes he laid his hands on the man and asked, “Do you see anything?” Looking up the man replied, “I see people looking like trees and walking.” Then he laid hands on the man’s eyes a second time and he saw clearly; his sight was restored and he could see everything distinctly. Then he sent him home and said, “Do not even go into the village.”

REFLECTION

“Do you see anything?”

We normally are satisfied with what we have till we see there is more and better.

As a child, I was quite content with seeing green “globs” of trees. To my surprise, with glasses there was such clarity of individual leaves on the trees.

So I wanted more—contacts, lasik and now prisms. All because I want to see things clearly.

I am sure the blind man would have been content and happy to just even see “people looking like trees and walking”. Jesus knew he could not see distinctly. Jesus could give him more.

His “one on one” attentiveness to the man’s needs shows us the immensity of God’s love. The graces we can receive from God are there for His giving. We are to hear, obey, do, trust and be patient.

Allow God to work in us, “spittle and all”. Go wherever He takes us whether away from the crowd or amidst the crowd. We will be blessed.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

When we meet someone who needs help, bring them in prayer to Jesus. Beg Jesus to touch them.

Thank you God for all you do for us.

God bless you.
