Gospel

But when he comes, the Spirit of truth,

he will guide you to all truth.

REFLECTION

St Jerome, Desert Father, translated the Bible from Greek and Hebrew into Latin, in the fourth century. He famously said, " Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ."

How does one become good at what they do? Study, practice and perseverance.

Plumbers spend time in a 4 year state registered accredited apprenticeship, doctors spend 3-6 years after medical school mastering their specialty, lawyers and judges learn and know the law in the states they have licenses, and priests, following an undergraduate degree, spend four years of study in theology and philosophy at a seminary, serve one year as a transitional deacon and then are ordained priests. All need to continue to learn and be up to date with new developments or go on retreats for spiritual refreshment, insight and growth.

Jesus is preparing the Apostles for His departure. This is the Farewell Discourse given by Jesus to eleven of his apostles immediately after the conclusion of the Last Supper, the night before the Crucifixion. He knows they will need help.

To know Jesus Christ, we need to know Scripture: what He said, what was foretold of Him, how the Church puts His words into action. The more we read the Scriptures and pray, the more we get to know Jesus and the more we grow spiritually. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth and He will guide us to Jesus.

Please pray the Come Holy Spirit prayer by St Augustine. This prayer is found in our PAPAmio.org website. Also join us for FACE ZBS (bible study by zoom, face to face with our spiritual advisor, Father Michael Truongluan Nguyen) to learn how to read, think and understand Scripture.

God Bless You.
