WEDNESDAY OF THE TENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME JUNE 12, 2024

Gospel

Mt 5:17-19

Jesus said to his disciples:

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets.

I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.

Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away,

not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter

will pass from the law,

until all things have taken place.

Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments

and teaches others to do so

will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven.

But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments

will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven."

REFLECTION

“Whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven”

In the silence of prayer, I hear my whispered conversation with God. Away from phone calls, TV and radio, dog barking, kids fighting, I sit with God. I don’t rattle on and on as I seem to do when in a social event. With God, sometimes there are no spoken words, but the Word communicates with me.

At times, it’s good to put aside set devotions and prayers, reading, learning and memorizing the tenets of the Church, the reason for this or that. The simpler my conversation is, the more I don’t want to leave His presence.

Yes, as with all friendships, there can be a sadness because I did not spend enough time with the ones I love. Not enough time with my parents, my children, my husband, brother or dear friends; not enough time to enjoy them through the Word and His commandments. Yes, physical contact is needed, but life without God in our lives can never be substituted.

So with compass (Commandments) in hand, I pray and ask, “Make me to know your ways, O Lord, teach me thy path’” (Psalm 26:4) Show me the way to the Kingdom of Heaven.

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

The Holy Catholic religion consists of ten laws of charity.  They are The Ten Commandments.

1.      The First:  Worship and serve the Lord your God above all: with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind and all your strength.

2.      The Second: Do not use the name of the Lord your God in vain.

3.      The Third: Keep the Lord’s Day holy.

4.      The Fourth:  Honor your father and your mother.

5.      The Fifth:  Do not kill (or incur abortion)

6.      The Sixth:  Do not commit adultery (fornication and sodomy).

7.      The Seventh: Do not steal.

8.      The Eighth: Do not bear false witness against your neighbor.

9.      The Ninth: Do not covet your neighbor’s wife.

10.  The Tenth: Do not covet your neighbor’s goods.

The Ten Commandments are summed up in one greatest law: Love the Lord Your God above all; and love your neighbor as you love yourself.

God bless you.
