let it be deep as the nether world, or high as the sky!
But Ahaz answered,
"I will not ask! I will not tempt the LORD!"
Then Isaiah said:
Listen, O house of David!
Is it not enough for you to weary men,
must you also weary my God?
Therefore the Lord himself will give you this sign:
the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and shall name him Emmanuel.
REFLECTION
Is it not enough for you to weary men,
must you also weary my God?
Do we weary God?
Zechariah and Elizabeth had been praying for a child, yet, when their prayer was answered, Zechariah doubted the message of the angel.
When we pray do we doubt God will answer? After all, will my prayer change His mind? Of course not, because to change the mind of God would make Him imperfect. And He is perfect. So why do we pray?
We pray because God wants us to. In His perfect plan, God wills that we receive graces for ourselves and the people we pray for when we pray.
Certain blessings or graces are ordained to be received through an active role by our intercessory prayers. St Monica is an excellent example of patient, tempered praying. She knew, as well as we do, prayers are answered in Gods time. And the answered prayers are God's Will. Our reasoning gives way to faith.
On the other hand, Mary also questioned the message of the Angel, but her question was to learn or get instructions how she, a virgin, would bare a child.
Let us not weary Our Lord in our prayer life. Visit with Him and get to know Him by way of the Sacrifice of the Mass, read Scripture daily, walk with Him and His Mother through the rosary, visit Him at Adoration, pray His Will always be done, for it is in His goodness and love that we receive patience and peace, and when called by God, our response should be , "Yes, please show me how."
