Gospel

Jn 6:35-40

Jesus said to the crowds,

"I am the bread of life;

whoever comes to me will never hunger,

and whoever believes in me will never thirst.

But I told you that although you have seen me,

you do not believe.

Everything that the Father gives me will come to me,

and I will not reject anyone who comes to me,

because I came down from heaven not to do my own will

but the will of the one who sent me.

And this is the will of the one who sent me,

that I should not lose anything of what he gave me,

but that I should raise it on the last day.

For this is the will of my Father,

that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him

may have eternal life,

and I shall raise him on the last day."

REFLECTION

The first reality of life is that we will surely die. Every living thing will die. We have fears and questions about death and eternity. The question we should ask, where will we find ourselves--eternal happiness as promised by God or eternal misery

For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him

may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day." These words of Jesus show us the true path that leads us to everlasting happiness. What is this path? That Jesus will always be present with us in our thoughts, prayers, in what we do and what we do for others. We do what is right, we do unto others what we want done to us and we do our very best in this world to please God. God has placed this natural desire for happiness in our hearts, so that we can be drawn to Him, who alone can make us happy.

We tend to complicate things, though, when we overthink, over reach, or feed our doubts about God's love for us. We can quickly see more of the world and its tribulations and attach ourselves to the material things that dazzle our eyes. Or we can set our sights on the Son who follows the will of His Father, rejects no one who comes to Him, who died on the Cross, Resurrected and thus defeated death and saved us from the one who promises eternal misery.

It is our choice: do we come to Him, the Bread of Life and seek His words and footsteps, or do we choose the easy way, failing to recognize Him through our rose tinted glasses?

Pray for Him to penetrate our minds and hearts, always ready for our eternal future.

God Bless You
