A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mt 5:17-19
Jesus said to his disciples:“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets.I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letterwill pass from the law, until all things have taken place. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandmentsand teaches others to do sowill be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandmentswill be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.”
REFLECTION
Have we taken Lent for granted? Do we take our spouses, loved ones for granted? Do we take God for granted? Our prayers ? The Holy Mass? Or the Eucharist?
Today we are reminded of the Mosaic covenant -a solemn promise to engage in or refrain from a specified action. It is a covenant with God, who needs nothing, and His children, who need everything from Him.
We are promised that with Wisdom and Understanding we can get closer to God, live and enter in and take possession of what God gives us.
God who needs nothing, deemed to make a covenant with us by way of the Ten Commandments, which He wrote.
As we fast, repent and give alms, we get closer to the Lord. The Lord is always present to us, but we are not. He always keeps His promises in spite of our infidelity. Jesus Christ is the evidence of God's kept promises.
Show our fear of the Lord through the eyes of our mind, the ears of our hearts and show our family, friends, and strangers the good things God has in store for us.
”Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.”
