Gospel

Jesus summoned the Twelve and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick. He said to them, “Take nothing for the journey, neither walking stick, nor sack, nor food, nor money, and let no one take a second tunic. Whatever house you enter, stay there and leave from there. And as for those who do not welcome you, when you leave that town, shake the dust from your feet in testimony against them.” Then they set out and went from village to village proclaiming the good news and curing diseases everywhere.

REFLECTION

he sent them to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

We are encouraged to practice the corporal works of mercy, particularly visiting the sick. Our interest and charity may alleviate another person's suffering. We might think we are intruding, but the corporal works of mercy can do immense amount of good for the sick person as well as for the visitor.

God created man in His own image and we are to treat one another with dignity. Jesus went about doing good and healing, not only helping those who sought Him but also He went about in search of the sick. Our visit should include prayer time and this special prayer can open up God's graces upon the sick person.

Whenever we take care of a person who is suffering we are taking care of Jesus Christ Himself.

God Bless You.
