FRIDAY OF THE TWENTY-FOURTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME, SEPTEMBER 22, 2023

Gospel Lk 8:1-3

Jesus journeyed from one town and village to another, preaching and proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom of God. Accompanying him were the Twelve and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, Joanna, the wife of Herod's steward Chuza, Susanna, and many others who provided for them out of their resources.

REFLECTION

In today’s Gospel, Our Lord is proclaiming the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God is not so much a place as a state of mind. St. Paul tells us to put on the mind of Christ, and elsewhere he says: “Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect” (Rom 12:2). In the Our Father, we pray: “Thy Kingdom come.” By this petition we ask that God may rule in our hearts and that we may live according to the spirit of Jesus Christ. By this we hope for the ultimate kingdom of God where He reigns for ever and ever.
