FRIDAY OF THE TWENTY-SIXTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME, OCTOBER 6, 2023

Joshua Porter

Gospel

Jesus said to them,

"Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida!

For if the mighty deeds done in your midst

had been done in Tyre and Sidon,

they would long ago have repented,

sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon

at the judgment than for you.

And as for you, Capernaum, 'Will you be exalted to heaven?

You will go down to the netherworld.'

Whoever listens to you listens to me.

Whoever rejects you rejects me.

And whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me."

REFLECTION

In today's Gospel, Our Lord scolds Chorazin and Bethsaida for their unrepentance.

It is important for us to attentively listen to the Lord by living according to the Gospel. It is not enough to see miracles. When Our Lady of Guadalupe fashioned St Juan Diego's miraculous tilma, the peoples of Mexico corresponded to this message from heaven by converting to the Catholic Faith.

It is well known that "talk is cheap." What matters most is that we give our "yes" to God through our actions. Let us therefore, pray that the Lord grants us true conversion of heart so that we may more attentively listen to Him.
