“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets.
I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.
Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away,
not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter
will pass from the law,
until all things have taken place.
Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments
and teaches others to do so
will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven.
But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments
will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.”
REFLECTION:
Recently, I was having a thought-provoking conversation with a friend about an often-overlooked Commandment:
“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, his male or female slave, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor” (cf Exodus 20:17)
I don’t even know my next-door neighbor’s name, let alone covet their belongings. What about buying luxury goods above our means to keep up with the Jones? Following celebrities and wishing you were them?
Lord, thank you for being generous to our neighbors. Grant us the grace to be fruitful with the talents you have given us.
