WEDNESDAY OF THE TWELFTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME JUNE 22, 2022

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mt 7:15-20

Jesus said to his disciples: “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves. By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. So by their fruits you will know them.”

REFLECTION

"By their fruits you will know them."

Every Saturday I would tag along with my mama and go to the Mercado. There we would buy fruit, vegetables, meat and have a treat with caramelized goat milk.

I remember how she would examine the fruit and see if it was bruised or brown or was mushy. One bad fruit would get the other fruits contaminated.

The same is true in our life. Every day we go to the marketplace--whether it be Church, work, family, volunteer work or even a silent refuge with God reading meditation books.

We seek out those who will be a help and influence in our life’s journey—do the people I associate with bring charity, joy, happiness, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, perseverance, mildness, faith, modesty, faith, modesty and chastity?

Do people see these fruits for the “picking” when around me?

These are the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
