TUESDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME JANUARY 21, 2020

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 13:44-46

Jesus said to his disciples: "The Kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the Kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it."

REFLECTION: "When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it."

Jesus is telling us that when we find something good (in worldly standards), we drop everything to obtain it.

In comparison, if we open our eyes to God, and realize His love for us, we should also drop everything to follow Him.

And we follow Him. And we fail. Then we try again.

Jesus is always waiting for us, calling us. We are the ones that keep getting distracted and go off course. And then led back to Him by His mercy through the sacrament of reconciliation.

He has given us Himself to help on our perseverance, the gift of the Eucharist.

And we will keep trying to follow Him, and fail again. We receive His mercy through confession, again, and again return to the road.

We will ask for the grace of perseverance, until we reach the Kingdom of Heaven.
