A reading of the holy Gospel according to Jn 14:15-16, 23b-26

Jesus said to his disciples:

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

And I will ask the Father,

and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always.

“Whoever loves me will keep my word,

and my Father will love him,

and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him.

Those who do not love me do not keep my words;

yet the word you hear is not mine

but that of the Father who sent me.

“I have told you this while I am with you.

The Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name,

will teach you everything

and remind you of all that I told you.”

REFLECTION

"The Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name,

will teach you everything

and remind you of all that I told you.”

"The Holy Spirit is like a wind that blows wherever it pleases: you hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going." Alleluia (Universalis app)

"Send forth your spirit and new life will begin; you will renew the face of the earth." Alleluia (Psalm 103)

In Hebrews 5:7, Jesus "groans in the Spirit". In Romans 8:26, St Paul states, "The Spirit intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express." And God told the prophet Joel, "I will pour out my Spirit on all mankind." (Acts 2: 17)

The Holy Spirit empowers men to have a new life in God. Baptism in the Holy Spirit allows the Holy Spirit to completely fill our minds and hearts with the love of God and eventually to holiness. We are guided by the Holy Spirit to do God's will and we then allow the Holy Spirit to be in control of our thoughts, words and actions. (1)

In 1 Corinthians 3:16, St Paul states "Do you not know that you are God's temple...that God's Spirit dwells in you.?"

May the Holy Spirit be allowed to grow life within us so as to cultivate and make fruitful His gifts. (2)

May we receive the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit --Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Patience, Knowledge, and Fear. May we, in turn, receive the twelve Fruits of the Holy Spirit: Kindness, Generosity, Joy, Charity, Self Control, Goodness, Chastity, Peace, Patience, Gentleness, Faith and Modesty. (1)

Daily we ought to thank the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.

God Bless You.
