"Why was this oil not sold for three hundred days' wages
and given to the poor?"
REFLECTION
"For the love of money is the root of all of evils, and some people in their desire for it have strayed from the faith and have pierced themselves with many pains." (1 Timothy 6:10)
In plain sight, Lazarus, the one Jesus raised from the dead, and his sisters invited the Lord and his friends to have dinner at their home. Lazarus reclined at the table with Jesus. Judas saw the expensive aromatic nard used on Jesus and said, " Why is this oil not sold for 300 days' wages and given to the poor?"
Jesus will soon be offering Himself for our salvation. In a few days the anointing of His Body will take place. The cost of His Sacrifice for reparation of our sins of the world is for each one of us to contemplate. He did all, His death, with no limits, no holding back. In saving us He gifted us with His own life.
There should be no more miserable stinginess on our part. We witness the extreme goodness of God, His love, for creating us and redeeming us with His Blood. He brought us close to Himself by giving us the Sacraments: Baptism, Confession, Holy Eucharist, Confirmation, Holy Unction (Anointing of the Sick), Holy Matrimony and Holy Orders. Go to Mass and receive His Body and Blood frequently.
He asks us if we want more of his generosity. Ask Him to change you, to give you the desire and the means to love Him far more than you have offended Him. Ask Him to be present in your heart and give back to Him a heart completely in love with Him. Surrender your will to His.
Detach yourself from all that is not for God. Pray and allow love to enter. Thank Him for your gifts, blessings of family, friends, PAPA, your faith, great priests and for many answered prayers. We can afford an expensive aromatic nard, we can afford all that we do and say for Him.
"Everything that is done for God is the love of God." (St Francis de Sales )
