TUESDAY OF THE TWENTY-FIFTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME SEPTEMBER 22, 2020

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke 8:19-21

The mother of Jesus and his brothers came to him but were unable to join him because of the crowd. He was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and they wish to see you.” He said to them in reply, “My mother and my brothers  are those who hear the word of God and act on it.”

REFLECTION: “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.”

Kim was a twenty year old pregnant unwed mother. She was not ready for motherhood and she doubted if she would get the support of her family. On her way to Planned Parenthood she prayed God would stop her if she was not making the right choice.

Her pregnancy was confirmed and she was given an appointment for her abortion. She did get thirty minutes counselling and was met with friendly smiles, assurances and told in two weeks she needed to show up with her appointment slip for the abortion. She visited with her pastor because she was worried about losing her soul and she prayed in earnest to God. She prayed for a sign.

Still confused she showed up for her abortion. However, she could not find her appointment slip, no one at the facility remembered her nor did they have her scheduled for an abortion. She took this as God's sign. "She committed herself to have her baby and to raise her child in faith. She would be God's daughter. He would be her Father.

No matter how difficult life is now, reach out to God, hear His Word and act on it.

JOY

You cannot know the joy I feel,

Deep, deep within my breast

You cannot know the truest love,

Unless you have been blessed

With Children

In this world we know

There really is no other

Sweeter word to listen to

Than someone call you

“Mother”
